Simply roll two or more dice and use the words together to create a question, tell a story or spark a conversation. Every roll creates a new combination.

What stage of dementia are the dice best for?

The dice are especially helpful for individuals in the early and middle stages of dementia, but they can easily be adapted for different abilities by rolling fewer dice or simplifying the conversation.

Great for memory loss

This game is very simple and up front. Great for people with major and minor memory loss issues. Basically you have dice that each have words on each side. You use these words to play the game, after choosing from 4 ways to play. The dice are soft and made from silicone which makes them durable and safe to use. It encourages using memories without the stress of feeling on the spot. $16.99 is a good price.

I Wish I Could Give Everyone with a Loved One with Dementia One Of These!

Let's just dive right into this review with a look at how you "play" with these dice. I am hesitant to call this a "game" because the purpose of these dice is really not to "play a game" but to reconnect someone to their lives in such a way that feels most natural to them. So, let's pretend that it's not a game, but rather a cognitive tool. The dice come with a guide on how to "play" with the dice that includes 4 suggested versions of the "game".#1: Start a conversation. You're supposed to pick a pair of same-colored dice and roll them. Let's roll the yellow dice; I came up with "funny" and "song". You might say something like, "I heard a song the other day that I thought was funny. What's a song that you think is funny?" And from there, the person with dementia might remember something funny happening the last time they heard the Hokey Pokey. I think this is a great way to get a dementia patient to open up about associations they can make and explore memories.#2: The Story Chain. Let's roll the blue dice this time: "quiet" and "family". "There once was a family that lived on Elm Street who loved their peace and quiet". Roll the pink dice: "loud" and "game". "One day, their peace and quiet was shattered by a loud game of solitaire happening next door." Roll the purple dice: "fancy" and "car". "Just then, a man driving a fancy car pulled onto the street and started beeping his horn." And so on. Now, there are two ways to "play" this option: a completely made up story or, more helpful to the patient, a story that is very real to them.#3: Full Story Mode. This option is really just #2 rolling all 8 dice at the same time.#4: Act It Out (Charades). This option is my personal favorite because it allows someone who might no longer be able to communicate with speech to communicate an idea to the other "players" through gestures. And the word "pretty" might evoke a time when, in her youth, the patient felt most beautiful. Nostalgia, and the act of really trying to remember, is a great thing for someone who tends to feel like they're losing that ability. On the back of the "game play guide" are some very useful pieces of information. Frankly, someone using these dice doesn't really care about the quality of the dice (They are very nice), they care about the connections that they can make with their patients. The real purpose of these dice isn't really to "play games", it's to help those who are losing their grips on their own minds to hold onto themselves as long as they can.I can sit here and rabbit on about the pretty colors and the clear print on the dice. I can comment about the weight of the dice, and all the fun I had with my kids one night. But all of that is immaterial to the smile on that little old man's face when he fondly remembers that "sweet treat" he had with the girl he fell in love with. Something as simple as that memory might spark a conversation, and that conversation might spark an emotion. And something that he thought was lost forever in the fog snaps into focus. These dice are so much more than a "game" to your patients. They represent a world of possibilities to someone who has limited time left to live. And that gift is so much more than a simple "game".

Great conversation starter for pretty much anyone!

What a great, functional way to be able to start and continue conversations with elderly parents or friends who may be struggling with their thoughts. They are also great just as a fun conversation starter. With eight six-sided dice, there are almost unlimited topics that can be generated from these dice. They are also soft, so they don't make a ton of noise when you roll them... bonus!!

High-Quality Storytelling Tool for All Ages

In our multi-generational household, we are always looking for ways to keep dinner conversations engaging for everyone from our teenagers to their grandparents in their 80s. This dice set is a fantastic addition to our rotation, though the packaging requires a little "DIY" depending on your audience.Physical Quality:Substantial Feel: The dice are nicely sized and feel quite substantial in your hand.Quiet Play: A huge plus is that they don't make a loud, clattering noise when rolled, which is appreciated by both the kids and the seniors.Colors: While the colors are perfectly fine, they could have been a bit more vibrant to add to the visual appeal.Gameplay and Flexibility:The game is incredibly flexible. While the box suggests a few formats, we’ve found success in making up our own—varying the number of dice, acting out the prompts, or starting "round-robin" stories. It’s a wonderful way to prompt the funny family stories my mother-in-law loves to share. The Branding Note:One important thing to mention: the word “Dementia” is printed very prominently on the lid. In our case, this isn't the situation, and I wouldn't want to cause any offense or misunderstanding with my mother-in-law. I plan to cover or scratch that part out before bringing it to the table.

Cute conversation dice!

This is a really cute conversation game set! I didn't realize it was for dementia, but that is such a fun and cute use for it! I think it could be used for any conversation, but I love how it is intended to help memory and build connection. There are several ways to play, 8 soft silicon dice with different prompts on each one. They instructions are clear and easy to follow. They are pleasant pastel colors. The text is just printed on, not engraved in any way, so I'm hoping it doesn't rub off with use. $20 seems like a very reasonable price.

Compact and portable

This review is for the Just Roll with It Conversation Dice Game | Dementia Activities for Seniors | Alzheimer’s & Dementia Story Dice Cubes | Great for Individuals Living with Dementia, Families and Caregivers.I got this to use with my dad who is having memory issues, he can easily roll dice and follows directions given in the moment. The dice are large and soft and easy to use. I like how compact and portable it is, he is currently doing short term rehab for his hip and it is easy for us to bring when we visit and gives us something a bit more structured and fun to do.

Incredibly helpful.

This is a terrific idea and is incredibly helpful when dealing with elderly dementia patients. These are very large silicone die with very easy to read words on each side. Each of the four categories are different gentle pastel color. When you roll these dice they're very soft to touch, easy to throw and role rather quietly on the tabletop. This is truly a good quality set of dice and a terrific idea. It's very helpful as I often run out of things to say and this really helps start and keep the conversation going. If this is something you need I absolutely recommend this. And this would be a terrific value at any price.

Game changer

This game is truly something special for families navigating dementia. Knowing it was created by a gerontologist immediately gave me confidence, and it absolutely delivers on its purpose—bringing empathy, connection, and even moments of joy into what can often be a challenging experience. What I love most is how the game gently shifts the focus from frustration to understanding. It encourages meaningful interaction in a way that feels natural, not forced. The prompts and activities are simple, engaging, and designed with real care, making it easier to connect with loved ones who may struggle with memory or communication.I’ve seen firsthand how it creates small but powerful moments—smiles, laughter, and genuine connection that might not happen otherwise. It also helps family members better understand what their loved one may be experiencing, which builds patience and compassion. This isn’t just a game—it’s a tool for bringing families closer together during a difficult journey. I highly recommend it to anyone caring for or spending time with someone living with dementia. It’s meaningful, uplifting, and truly makes a difference. 💙

Great Memory Recall & Conversation Game

This is a good open-ended conversation game that can be easily tailored to create dozens of experiences. The game comes with four suggested ways to play with the dice, creating scenarios using the keywords. These games can easily help with memory recall and guide the players into focusing on particular events or feelings. But you could also create your own versions of games, too.Simple prompt words on the dice give each user a wider variety of interpretations. Extra dice can be used to narrow things down or guide it in a direction. Even someone who is not a particularly good story teller should be able to come up with a memory related so such simple terms, which is one of the best aspects of this game. The dice are colorful and slightly soft to the touch, making them easy to handle and see. The box has inserts cut out to keep them stored protectively when not in use.Memory games, story telling games, and conversation prompt games are all very useful. They help you express yourself better and focus. They can also be used as bonding games, helping players learn more about one another and get comfortable having conversations. This is a simple yet valuable game with many uses and even more benefits.

Thoughtful, Kind, Well Designed Set of Dice to Promote Conversation and Compassion

What a thoughtful, creative idea! My M-I-L is suffering from dementia and this should be a helpful, kind way for her daughter (my wife) and all of us to spend time with her.My only quibble is that the box lid says, "Thoughtfully Created for People with Dementia." I'm not saying anyone should deny the diagnosis, but it's a little abrupt, a little rude, for dementia patients to see that in writing. The concept is brilliant. You take two same-color dice and roll them, then build questions around the two words. One word is a noun and the other an adjective. So, for example, the visitor rolls "Funny Treat" and asks something like, "What's the funniest special treat you got as a little girl?"Who cares what the answer is. These dice will break awkward silences and encourage your loved one to participate in dialogue. Great! The items are well made. The instructions are thorough. This is a product made with love and kindness. I hope it works for my own mother-in-law and for anyone who buys it!

Nicely Made - Hopefully Helpful

Someone I know was recently diagnosed with dementia, so I’ve been looking for tools and activities that might help keep them engaged and encourage conversation as they navigate this difficult disease.I came across this game, which is designed to prompt conversation and interaction, something that can be very helpful for maintaining connection and supporting memory for as long as possible. We’ll be trying it soon, and I’m hopeful it will be a meaningful and helpful activity. The game arrived in a nice, sturdy box and was well packaged. It includes clear instructions explaining how it works, along with well-made, soft dice that are easy to handle.Overall, I think this could be a very useful tool as we move forward through this journey together.

Fun conversation starter with a small packaging gripe

I really like the idea behind this conversation dice set. It was thoughtfully created for people living with dementia, but I do wish that wording wasn’t printed right on the box. It kind of limits it as a gift, even though the activity itself would be great for anyone.I actually bought these because the words on the dice encourage fun, memory-based storytelling. We’ve been using them at the dinner table with our son and it’s been a great way to spark conversation. One suggestion is to roll all the dice and create a story using every word, but we’ve also had fun turning it into a short story or even one long run-on sentence. The dice are larger than standard dice, easy to read, and have a slightly rubbery, cushioned feel so they’re quiet when you roll them.My only other hesitation is the price. At the end of the day it’s a handful of word dice, so the $20 price at the time I ordered felt a little high. Still, it’s a creative idea and a fun way to get people talking.

Dementia activity

Recently had my mother in law move in with us, with the beginning stages of dementia. While looking for activities that she could do, it seemed as tho most were too complicated to keep her engaged which led her to frustration, which ended in a not so pleasant evening. Anyway, I decided to give this dice activity a try. While I would not call it a game it does stimulate conversation and recollecting memories of days gone by.I did have to remove them from the original box, because the meet mention of dementia makes her mad, so I didnt want her inadvertently seeing the box which says it is for dementia, but I worked around it successfully. On days that are particularly rough we only roll one dice or me and my husband do it and she tends to jump in with her two cents. As the disease progresses Im unsure how well this will work, but for now, anything is better than nothing.God bless all of those that have to take care of dementia patients--there is a special place in heaven for them.

A Simple, Screen-Free Way to Share Stories Around the Table

These dice are marketed toward dementia care, and I'm sure they're wonderful for that purpose. But I want other families to know they work beautifully outside that context too.We use them for evening family time. After dinner, we'll make tea or hot cocoa, sit around the table, and take turns rolling. The set includes four pairs of dice, each with simple words printed on the faces — typically one adjective and one noun. You might roll "warm" and "home," or "happy" and "dance." Whatever comes up, you share a story or memory that connects to those words. The simplicity is what makes it work. There are no complicated rules, no scoring, no winners or losers. You roll, you talk, you listen. My 5-year-old can participate just as easily as the adults. Her stories tend to be shorter and more imaginative than actual memories, but that's part of the charm. Even our toddler likes rolling the dice and hearing everyone talk, even if she doesn't fully participate yet. What surprised me is how naturally the conversations flow once you start. A single roll can lead to ten minutes of stories bouncing between family members, one memory triggering another. We've heard stories from each other that might never have come up in normal conversation. The dice just give you a starting point, and the rest happens on its own.The dice themselves are well made — lightweight, easy to read, and large enough for small hands to roll. The word pairings are thoughtfully chosen to be broad and evocative without being too specific, so there's always something to say regardless of what you roll. We've turned this into a regular after-dinner ritual, and it's become one of my favorite parts of the week. If you're looking for a way to get your family talking and off screens for a while, don't let the dementia-specific marketing scare you off. These are conversation starters for anyone.

Wow, this is a really beautiful, thoughtfully designed set to encourage engagement with our loved ones who have Alzheimer’s and dementia. My mother-in-law experiences dementia and I’ve struggled to maintain a relationship because I don’t know how to communicate with her. I think these dice may help me more than her.Everything about these was designed with care. The presentation is well protected and giftable. Everything is professionally done. The dice feel good to touch and hold. They’re a soft silicone and have a satisfying roll to them without clanking against the table or flying onto the floor. They are housed in a squishy foam case.Opening the lid and taking out the dice is a little harder if you have arthritis, but I think the idea is that someone will be playing along and hopefully that person has the abilities to do this part. If not, you can just leave the lid half on.My mom’s best friend is an experienced elder care social worker and I’m going to get her thoughts on these, too, but I didn’t want to hold up sharing how wonderful the set is until then.

A Gentle, Clever Tool To Prompt Meaningful Conversation

After working with dementia and Alzheimer’s patients for 25 years, I’ve used just about every reminiscing tool available—from magazines to therapist‑made Busy Boxes. These conversation dice are one of the most thoughtful products I’ve seen in a long time. The silent roll is a small detail that makes a huge difference. Sudden noises can easily upset or startle a patient, and these dice eliminate that concern completely. The soft pastel colors are calming, and the prompts are simple, friendly, and never feel like a test. They’re perfect for sparking memories without pressure.Even though I’m not currently working with Alzheimer’s patients, I use these with my older friends and a wonderful group of 100‑year‑old ladies. It can sometimes be hard to know what to ask someone who has lived so much life, but these prompts make conversations natural and enjoyable. No one feels insulted or singled out—they just find the dice fun, clever, and engaging. This is a beautifully designed product that brings connection, dignity, and joy to any group. Highly recommended.
